EXPERIENCES

Jon:

school with different cultures, he taught Euskera which is important to know the culture. It is very important to maintain the culture each person has. It is also true that knowing the history and the culture of the country you are already living in is crucial.

Anna:

prepared for an art class (theater). Students participated a lot between them and enjoyed the session no matter the language. And we work through the different topics related to the elements we need to create a theater play.

Reta:

Grammar part: future tenses. I explained the topic and gave them exercises, it was difficult because the students were not good at English. They also had to analyze sentences with a different language system from their mother tounge.

Ayane:

explain about Japan (foods, places, languages) and differences between schools in Japan and Belgium, and storytelling about animals in the different languages (English, Spanish, and Japanese) for primary school students

THINGS IN COMMON

1. cultural diversity

2. students wanted to learn about a different culture, and language system

3. students learn actively, and they construct their own learning (Anna and Jon)

DIFFERENCES

1. own way of teaching

2. each of us has explained different topics

3. the time dedicated to the activities

4. flexibility of classes

5. generation of knowledge

STRENGTHS

Anna:

My creativity was suitable for creating a session to learn the different aspects of a topic in a way that students had fun but at the same time could understand what they were doing. Also, language was not a barrier to learning. I also could handle group management, and I think in this subject (art) students get excited and they can be more noisy than usual.

Jon:

- Positive attitude

- Eager to learn from the students

- Empathy for the children who found everything out of their culture strange.

Reta:

There were some important things I observed that, I think, were the strength. First, the students were listening to me. Second, they hardly made any noise while I was teaching.

Ayane:

Conducted classes in a visually easy-to-understand the contents using PPT and teaching materials that I created.

WEAKNESSES

Anna:

some students did not take theatre as another subject but as a playtime.

Jon:

Pupils did not understand why it was important to know the culture and history of the Basque country.

It was difficult to get pupils interested in learning to speak Basque at first.

Reta:

I found some students who could not answer the questions I had given them.

I also acted like an authoritarian, so I expelled one of my students from the class though I could have acted authoritatively in a helping way.

Ayane:

I was so nervous because it was my first internship. I wanted to be more involved with the students.
